Recently, making out panoramic photos has become much easier as your software stitches them quite beautifully together. Photoshop is quite skillful and master in doing that; it has got a command called Photo Merge that weaves your photos once you hit it. Now, software is mere medium which we use to ease our post works, but keeping some things in mind while taking up the photographs can generate much better outputs.

Camera Settings and Use

Always keep your horizon as level as possible throughout as otherwise you will get cropped unaligned images that will pain strake you to aligned them. You can take out possible close landmarks while shooting through your viewfinder, and focusing at that point on each consecutive shot while you move from one to next. This pre-identification will be much helpful as reference points to you.

Craig Bill, Texas US

Always set your camera to manual exposure. You don’t want your shots to have exposure level up and down which is inevitable if you set your camera to auto exposure mood. After this, try to shoot frames in vertical and overlap your shot with clean 30% of prior one, as while stitching them together the software is going to try to extract the least distorted part of the image that is quite reasonably the center part.

Hunter Valley NSW Australia by Milos Lekovic

Now one another trick you can follow: with auto focus 1st let your camera does a clean focus .As soon it does that flips your focus to manual so that it doesn’t get change to your next consequent clicks. You need to have clean focus on every image you shoot else otherwise your images won’t be uniform inconsistent for panoramas.

2

Use a Tripod

Perseid meteor, Utah by Thomas o’brien

This would be a mandatory thing if you are using a fast lens i.e. wide aperture one. You also need it if you have any important as foreground object or something like that. You will also be affected by parallax effect and use of a tripod would heal you from that.

Tripod also helps you to line up your shot in accurate way and that you overlap your photos properly to make the stitch happen for the panoramas. For say you are using a telephoto lens, a slightest movement in that can change your composition thereby creating a loop hole while making panoramas.

You also get parallax errors while making panoramas and only use of tripod can solve that. To put in simple words, when you have something in your foreground to shoot panoramas the perspective can change badly while changing or rotation your camera position to take up your next shot. This even gets better with the use of wide angle lenses. Though while using any telephoto lenses you don’t see this errors, or very less if present as the distance from your foreground to is not so much affecting.

If you like to make correct shots, you need to use special kind of tripods which will help taking those beautiful mind blowing 360 degree without parallax error and also allow you stitch images flawlessly, without even having wide angle lenses.

Tripod also helps align your image tonal range, when you set to auto bracketing exposure due to inconsistent light like sunrise or sunsets. I will explain that below on 4th point, but do make sure one thing- Tripod is an Inevitable Gear that You can’t Deprive.

3

Lens Use

Using a Wide Angle lens always distorts your image and you need to make lens corrections to straighten up bent lines, Horizons. This are quite time taking and can be corrected on post processing, but sometime you can be unsuccessful so do be prepared for that. Your panoramic software can heal up more accurately but success rate not always be 100%, so you may need to do some stitching by yourself that is manually to correct this. Same thing counts for shooting at extreme angles- for instance shooting a sky from low perspective can make out extreme angles at corners as your lens is a curved surface and these unnatural angles are reasonable to happen. While you always can join this images to make panoramas but it takes much more time and does take some more skill out of you and may be you need to stitch them manually as said earlier. But if your software can take up the data correctly then you are free to let him stitch else, as said.

Marco Garabello, Italy

Images taken with fast lenses are hard to stitch as they have too much blurry portions, bokehs etc. (out of focus parts). Having complete focus in all places makes you stitch easily. Those blurry images might take some time of yours and need to do some manual stitching as your part.

I generally use Photoshop Panos Stitching for the purpose, its good but it’s also a part of Photoshop so if you have it, just give it a try. Another Open Source Software called Hugin is my favorite too. It gives some pretty stunning results if you have solid foundation of images do give it a try. Some users have complained about its complicacy in using it but like every other software, you need to catch the learning curve. Considering it free software I would definitely recommend you to use it and tell us your experience.

4

Settings- Technical Measurements

It is very important that you take up some good test shots and tally your exposure settings to get the right one on actual act. Checking out your color histograms will assure you of this too. Once you are done you can grab some mental note then you are free to throw your camera on manual exposure mode while inputting the parameters as recorded on your tests. If you are shooting in auto mode, every time you Pan through to take an image the settings gets altered .Now, when there is a shaded part camera will try to change its settings to get the correct exposure thereby making that area bright vs. the normal bright region. This will make your photos tough to stitch, so why not make life a bit easier in your digital dark room by flipping everything to manual, ensuring everything remains fixed throughout.

There is some software that stitches your images by balancing out the exposure differences on your consecutive shots thus making your shot uniform to stitch. But this is not going to happen on all shots neither does this is a correct way unless you are in complex situation. You don’t always get the guarantee on this way of shooting and that every photo can be stitched, in terms of quality it is always better that you set to manual exposure. Shooting on Manual exposure you get uniform images with uniform exposure and that too without any loss of data.

You may need to auto bracket your photos to avoid blown out highlights, dim shadows that you face in complex lighting situation. By doing this you are using two styles, exposure blending and panoramic shoots. This gives you two or more images having different exposure levels of same composition, thus providing lot more work space while you are on post-production. After you are done stitching you will be having 2-3 separate set of files having different exposures enabling you to exposure blend with high tonal range using different layers.

Quick how-to tutorial

These days taking a panoramic photograph can be as simple as shooting a few frames and turning the camera as you go. Here is a quick tutorial to take panoramic photographs.

1. Hold your camera straight or place it in a tripod in front of the location.
2. Take a photo.
3. Turn and take another photo. It needs to overlap 30%-50%.

4. If you keep your camera over the same point, your panorama will turn out better. Imagine that your camera is on a tripod, and the camera is fixed in one place.
5. Repeat, until you make a full circle. If you want, make another row above or below the first one to get better results.

Conclusion

You can even use photoshop to stitch photos in order to create excellent panoramas. I will discuss about it in future article. Please let me know your views about these tips.

You can remark it as wild-time game, which surely it is. Wild is the community for animals and not ours so it’s there to decide what they will do and what they want to. You can tell them to make some gesture that well-suit your need, or you can’t ask they to align up in the way you want your frame to be. All you can do is to wait, wait and wait.
Patience is the key factor that play miraculous role to be a Good Wildlife Photographer. Whether you are trying to shoot your backward squirrel or the group of lions sitting with their family, you always need to spend time with them so as to get accustomed with their behavior hence forth. Spending time doesn’t mean it is s waste, it’s never waste at all. Every wildlife has its own personality with own means of life. Like after spending several hours with them you can anticipate what they will or going to do at particular time of a day, whether they are going to catch something for their lunch, which female is more lovable to their cubs, etc. In this way you can capture them at their colorful moods. So, the more time you spend the more you get to know them and their whereabouts which in turn makes your images intimate and revealing.

GEARS AND STUFFS

Telephoto lenses are must to have things in wildlife photography .The range of lenses totally depends on how close you are to the wildlife you are going to capture. Herbivores like gazelles tend to be pretty sensitive to other’s presence; they flee away at once you get close to them ruining your patience and effort you put to get them. For them it’s always sensible to use long range lenses so that you can shoot them far from your car and that they don’t sense your notice.

For Carnivores like cheetahs and lions you don’t need to be so much skittish as they don’t at all are. Ya, that’s Right! I heard of some National Geographic Photographers who had have experiences: lion cubs taking shade under there cars, and ultimately chewing up brake wires.. Anyway, I don’t want you to be in that position but at least you should be that close to see what’s going around.

Lenses like 300mm f2.8, 400mm, and 600mm of Canon are must for wildlife. You should choose one among this wisely that your ambience allows you to get the best. Suppose, you are using 300mm for shooting the carnivores, it’s because they are more tolerant to you. But it won’t be the case while shooting Birds, which are swift and flighty .And same for those who are shy. For them you should use the longest possible telephoto you have. Now, when you are in car its ok to use this 400mm, 600mm long lenses but when you are travelling by foot, hiking it would get very tough for you to hover around with this heavy weights. To ease the carriage you can easily use Teleconverters. They are small, light easy to carry and effectively increase the reach of your gun. It comes in different degree of magnifications. The drawback is that you lose some stops of light that lower your image resolution by a bit, but in overall journey you will be much energetic throughout.

Between all this a Tripod is of great concern, especially when you are in car and shooting for long range. A slight movement will blur away your subjects which is quite annoying. I would prefer you to buy Professionals Ball-Headed tripods which are strong enough to hold long lenses. This are swift, easily moveable to keep track of your wild lives .But while you are hiking don’t think to carry this sturdy tripods which are able to hold 600mm , just try to get natural easily occurring supports as of- tree branches, tree trunks, rocks, boulders etc. Your shoulders will be much happier that I guarantee.

Environment and Animal Personalities

Wildlife has their personality to reveal. Their habitat tells a lot , don’t always go on shooting with telephoto lenses, sometime you should use wide angle lenses to tell in what habitat they live one, where they dwell, feed, etc. Here is a shot by Cary Wolinsky and Bob Caputo, see how beautifully they have showcased the ambience, habitat of buffaloes.

Don’t always get swapped away by what is known as charismatic elements, your eyes get easily attracted towards big things. Don’t let your eyes do that, rather while on foot, be conscious to find out small birds, rabbits and much more. Remember Nature always surprise us, be cautious to get Surprised.

Todo List

1

Do research and know about your subject

2

Be patient always- Patience isn't a virtue, its a necessity in Wildlife photography.

3

Use recommended telephoto lens for better coverage

4

Focus manually and avoid motion blurs

5

Work the light

Recommended Wildlife DSLRs

Though you can photograph wildlife with any camera, some of the following models are better suited for it than others. Digital SLRs with smaller sensors are ideal because they’re easy to carry in the field and also they offer excellent autofocusing capabilities for still and action situations. I have listed some of the best wildlife DSLRs below, however i will make a separate post reviewing the cameras very soon.

Related Posts with Ad

We have implemented a better way to display the related posts widget along with ad. To insert your Ad code, Go to EDIT HTML page of your template and click “Expand widgets” check box.

Then search for the following code :

Replace this code with either encoded adsense code or Banner image.

Post Title with Social Media icons

Post Thumbnail Size Management

By default, I have set the image size used in 9gag site. But if you want to use this template for a tech blog and want to customize the image size width. Then you can do that by editing the following code in your template.

Go to EDIT HTML page of the template. And look for the following code.

In this change , domain name to your blog domain name.

For showing posts from particular category :

Change the last line in the code to this.

Here change the domain name and “featured” to the label name.

For more customization, please check the other post “Show Recent Posts With Thumbnail from Particular Label/Category in Blogger”

Responsive Web Design is an approach in which a designer intends to provide an optimal viewing experience.
Before knowing about the concept of scaling images, let’s have a look on “Responsive Web Design”.

Nowadays people want to get access to the Internet data from any place using a wide range of portable devices- desktops, laptops, tablets etc.
And quite often we have to struggle with a site’s content when trying to fit it our browser windows. Many times, we have to zoom in or out all the time and even see some content blocks broken. All this makes web surfing a real torture!

Smart web developers and site owners have faced necessity to create designs for different resolutions and devices. They want their sites to be compatible with BlackBerry smartphones , iPhones , iPads , netbooks etc. This is a short overall concept of responsive design which is in great request today.

SCALING IMAGES:

Scaling Images is one of the important and useful techniques for creating responsive web design. Scaling images is used to develop responsive layouts. The images are scaled according to the browser width to keep proportion in relation to the rest of the page content.

HOW TO SCALE IMAGES:

Adding the CSS max-width property to the image element, and giving the property a percentage value, is the easiest way for scaling images.

After that the browser determines the image’s width as a proportion of the width of its enclosing element, and also it automatically adjusts the image’s height to keep the correct aspect ratio of the image.

CSS has long had the ability to instruct browsers to size images by percentages, rather than absolute units or intrinsic size. The percentage is interpreted based upon the size of the containing element, rather than as a percentage of the intrinsic size of the image. Accordingly, an image 100px wide with a percentage size of 50% may be rendered many different sizes, depending upon the size of its container. And, if that element is itself sized with a percentage, it may change depending upon screen resolution and the size of the browser window.

Check out Demo

EXAMPLE:

First, add a photo to the main content area of our responsive layout example, and make it scale according to browser width.

Responsive Layout

Proin eget turpis nulla.

Phasellus accumsan sem in nisl luctus gravida. Vestibulum vitae scelerisque eros. Nullam id leo erat, et congue elit. Nunc volutpat justo tempor magna pretium adipiscing. Vivamus eget massa odio. Suspendisse potenti. Aliquam erat volutpat.

Next, add some CSS to float the photo to the right, give it an appropriate margin and border, and set its width to 65% of the container width using the max-width property:

.photo {
  float: right;
  margin: .4em 0 10px 10px;
  border: 10px solid rgba(0,0,0,.1);
  max-width: 65%;
}

Finally, to make the most of the screen real estate on very small devices, let’s remove the photo’s border when the browser width dips to 480 pixels or less:

/* If the viewport width <= 480 pixels ... */

@media screen and (max-width: 480px) {

  body {
    margin: 0;
  }

  #header .inner {
    padding-top: 5px;
    padding-bottom: 5px;
  }

  #header .inner, #content, #nav, #sidebar {
    margin-bottom: 5px;
  }

  #nav ul {
    padding: 5px 7px;
  }

  .photo {
    border: none;
  }
}

As the browser is resized, notice how the image scales with the width of its container so that it always remains in proportion to the content. With browser windows less than 480 pixels wide, such as mobile phone browsers, the image’s border disappears to make the best use of the available space.

For very narrow browsers on mobile devices, we remove the image border using a media query to save space.

So this is how, the scaling technique works and helps us in developing a responsive Design layout.

CSS provides a simple and easy way by which one can scale images for responsive web design.

In CSS, Min & Max Width property is simply used for creating responsive images.

Min & Max Width Property:

Max-width property allows us to set the max width of the element. The purpose of max-width is to prevent the element from extending the boundary.

Max-Width Container
In the example below, the container is specified to display at 800px if possible, but it should not exceed 80% of the boundary width.

.container {
	width: 800px;
	max-width: 80%;
}

Min-Width
Min-width is opposite to max-width. It sets the minimum width of an element. In the example form below, min-width is used on the input text field to prevent the input from getting very small when scaling down.

CONCLUSION:

As web technology is now evolving fast, we should learn to adopt responsive techniques as a standard practice. We must also keep evolving in the way we think about its practice, and how we can better responsive design beginning today. The techniques like “Scaling Images” provides a responsive view and therefore must be learnt in order to ensure a great user experience for everyone as we each adopt newer technologies, gadgets and many more.

Depending on what lens you are using you can add in creative control, different perspective, and technical improvements to your photographs. Choosing the right lens can lead you to have more control over your final image that you want to frame or already framed in, in your mind. Influence of lens can lead to optical aberrations, distortions (vignetting) etc. Focal length determines the angle of view at any given photographic position. A wide angle lens has shorter focal length while zoom lenses have longer. Many can argue on the fact that perspective can change with the change in focal length but strictly speaking, it just depend on one’s position relative to the subject and nothing else. Focal length can influence many more factors like making telephoto lenses are more susceptible to camera shake.

.

Focal length can influence have significant influence like this: longer focal length needs smaller exposure time as because the image may get blurred while framing it. This is mainly due to of rotational vibrations get increased with increase in distance. Think of it as one is trying to hold laser beam steady; the point jumps around over near objects, in any direction, less than the object which is much farther away.

Aperture also has some serious impact on images. It’s the light gathering area that alters within a predefined range and denoted by f-numbers. The smaller the f-number the more light will come in hitting the camera sensor and greater the f-number the less will happen. Lenses with larger aperture are termed as Fast Lenses; it is as so because for a given speed of ISO the exposure level can be made faster with increased shutter speed. Also in low light photography large aperture lenses provide consequent sharp auto focusing, while in portrait it helps in isolating the background

1

ZOOM and PRIME Lens

Lenses having varying aperture (light gathering area) within a predefined range are called zoom lenses. Here photographers can make vary their focal lengths depending on the subject matter whether to change their perspective or angle of frame they want to capture. A prime is what we called fixed focal length lens, where you can’t vary focal length if you wish to. Zoom lens offers the flexibility of capturing different images just by varying in or out, multiple shots can be achieved without doing any change of your actual position but that doesn’t mean you can’t move while handling a zoom lens; as I said it just adds in flexibility in terms of different perspective. Prime lenses are the 1st used lens in the world of camera, it is 1st and foremost type of lens used to capture images long before zoom lenses were invented. But why would one necessarily constrain there frame within a given focal length? Because it offers many advantages over any zoom lens and what comes first is its superior Image Quality. A normal inexpensive prime can you give equal or even better pictures than a zoom lens of same expense. When zoom lens first came to market one has to sacrifice a significant amount of optical quality and this is where the graph of zoom lens forms a crest. If one would like to use only a small fraction of its range then it’s always better to buy a prime of the same (more or less) focal length. Prime lenses are light weighed, easy and really fast. Now, please be acquainted with this “fast lens” term which I had mentioned earlier also.

By Fast lens we mean it has a greater light gathering area and can producing much shallower depth of field. Expensive Prime lenses are always on the top of the fastest Zoom lenses, from the point of sharpness, optical quality, isolation of the subject from the background etc. That is why they are so widely used in low-light, portraiture, theatrical, sports Photography.

Concerning Wide Angle Lenses

Generally we consider a lens to be wide in angle if its focal length lies equal or below 35mm.Wide angle help us to exaggerate the depth of filed and relative size of a photo .It is really a powerful tool that encompasses several techniques which, if used wisely and with with good senses, can results in strong composition with greater accuracy in perspective.
The explanation of ultra wide lenses is something fuzzier and on general it starts from around 20 mm and less. Now, for what purpose the lens used for and which trait of it makes it so unique? People generally frame up the idea that wide angle can only be used when one cannot step forward towards the subject but still want to capture the whole grandeur and essence. But the thing is not that at all, and if one were up to that track then they would be missing out a lot. The lens is used just for opposite: when you actually want to go close to the subject.
Now many old schools chap says that wide angle lenses change the perspective for its huge angle of view. But truly it doesn’t that so as perspective is only affected by your position to the subject.

Concerning Telephoto Lenses

Zoom or Telephoto lenses are very useful tools to achieve artistic and colourful frames. It closes up the distance and gives you a new look to your distant subject. They can also make your depth of field shallow to a great extend which you can put use in not only wild life but also landscape, portrait photography.

Generally the range of telephoto lens starts from 70mm and up. Of those which are having 70 -135mm are called medium telephoto but many wouldn’t consider a telephoto to be “the telephoto” till the focal length reaches 135mm and post to that. Now you will question me why to use a Telephoto zoom?

General notion says that telephoto lenses are used only to shoot distant object but that’s quite not true at all. It’s partly legitimate but not fully, telephoto opens up a wide range of possibilities while photographing similar objects but at different focal lengths, getting a bit near to the object. Though that shouldn’t be the case while shooting wildlife’s I hope!

Forums and UGC

Incorporating a forum on the website is another alternative for including user generated content on the site.

You will find a number of WordPress forum plugins, but some of the most popular are SimplePress and bbPress. There is a list available at WPMU.org for those who are looking for more choices. These two plugins incorporate almost all the functions expected from forums such as user registration, anti-spam tools, signatures, post moderation and more. You can see it in the feature list of the SimplePress. The best element of forums is they assist in developing an interactive community on the site and typically run themselves, even as you require a moderator.

On the other hand don’t feel that you just have to select one of these techniques to include user generated content on the website. You have the option to incorporate a forum, get a few regular contributors and add a form on the sidebar or the page to allow other users to submit links and links. That is in fact having all you need.

	return '

';
}
add_shortcode('ad', 'adscode');

To display the ad, you must use the following shortcode :

[ad]

Let’s break the code :

In the above code, you can see that i have included a DIV element with id=”ads”. It can be useful to add beautiful effects to the ad.

check the sample css code, you can add more css properties to make the ad fit your content perfectly.

#ads {
	background: #EEE;
	padding: 14px 25%;
	border: 1px solid #CCC;
}

Please replace this ad code with yours. You can place code of any Ad network such as Adsense or Buysellads or Adbrite or Amazon affiliate etc.

Style Code

Check out some ad code examples:

1

Centered AD

#ads {
	background: #EEE;
	padding: 14px 25%;
	border: 1px solid #CCC;
}

2

AD Floating left

The below CSS is used to float the ad on left side and content on right side. You can see this feature in most of the blogs. Some blogs have BuysellAds just below the title floating left and content floating right. This surely will increase your CTR.

#ads {
	float:left;
	background: #eee;
	border: 1px solid #ccc;
	padding:10px;
	margin: 10px 10px 10px 0px;
}

3

Ad Floating right

This following CSS will make the Ad to float on right side and content on left. Mostly i use to see blogs having ads floating on left side just below title. So when search engines crawl, The first element they crawl is ad code. mostly i prefer to have ads on right side. This makes content to appear first on content page.

#ads {
	float:right;
	background: #eee;
	border: 1px solid #ccc;
	padding:10px;
	margin: 10px;
}

Advanced options

If you have too many ad networks like adsense and buysellads or anything else and want to show multiple ads, even then you can make use of the above trick with some simple modifications.

function bsacode() {
	return '

';
}
add_shortcode('bsa', 'bsacode');

In the above code, you can see that i have changed the function name from adscode to bsacode and similarly ads to bsa in add_shortcode part. Similarly use custom CSS code as well.

Now when you want to show the second ad, you must call it using the following shortcode.

[bsa]

#bsa {
	background: #EEE;
	padding: 14px 25%;
	border: 1px solid #CCC;
}

Feedbacks

Hope the above tutorial will be helpful for you. You can replace the Ad code with any custom banner codes or images which you want to show using shortcodes. If you want any custom feature or want modifications in the above trick let me know.

Information Technology and Telecommunication have progressed at a rapid rate in the recent years. The development of smartphones, tablet PCs, notebooks and touch screen enabled android mobile devices in the last decade or so is a testament of how quickly technology has evolved. The invention of these multiple computing platforms has urged website developers to design adaptable websites that can be viewed easily on any of the newly developed gadgets that are being used by more people nowadays than PCs and Laptops. For developing an adaptable website, it is absolutely necessary that it should have a responsive web design.
Now that Google has started giving importance to the responsiveness of websites in deciding page rankings on SERPs, it has become ever so important that websites are made more responsive and adaptable.

1

Use Templates

Making use of a template is the first bit of advice that any expert in responsive web design would give you. Templates make it much easier for designers who are learning the tricks and trade of this type of web designing. Not only does using a template save time, it also provides a web developer with lots of fresh ideas. There are many websites on the internet that are providing intuitive responsive web design templates that can be used for making responsive websites with ease.

2

Apply Fluid Grid Based Layouts

The second tip for responsive web designing is to work with layouts that are fluid in nature. Because your website design would have to adjust to the different screen resolutions of the mobile devices, iPads and notebooks, it must have a layout that can adapt and fit according to the devices on which it is being viewed by the user. Defining the widths in percentages rather than in pixels can also help you in coming up with a responsive web design.

3

Make use of Jquery

jQuery is one of the most useful tools in designing responsive websites. This tool provides you the chance to play with several plug-ins that can help in enhancing the responsiveness and adaptability of your website design. Some of the most popular plug-ins that jQuery can provide you are, Supersized, FitVids, FitText and Elastislide. Thus, the third tip is to make use of anyone or all these plug-ins for making your website more responsive.

4

Employ Scalable Background Images

The employment of scalable background images is another of the tips that should be remembered by web developers in designing responsive web designs. It essentially means that you use CSS tweaks or jQuery plug-ins to scale the background image according to the desired resolution of the gadget on which it is supposed to be viewed. This is one tips that needs to be kept in mind for designing good quality responsive websites.

5

Use Flexible Imagery techniques

Images are one of the most important parts of any website design. In order to make the images of the website more adaptable to the changing resolution requirements it is advisable to use flexible imagery techniques like context-aware image sizing. The use of this technique will allow you to save multiple sizes of an image. So, now when the image is being viewed on a mobile device, only that image size that fits the resolution of the device is going to be displayed.

6

Don’t worry about designing the layout perfectly for all devices

When designing responsive websites it is not that necessary to be over-cautious with the layout of the web design for all the devices. This does not mean that you should not design the layout perfectly for the devices that are being used for viewing your website by most of your customers. However, for all those devices that are not that much popular among your customer base, you can afford to have a less than perfect layout.

Remembering and following these tips while developing a responsive web design can help young web designers in making websites that can adapt to any resolution setting and can be viewed on any mobile or touch-screen device.
